Confidence is an Aura: How I Stumbled into My Own Power

You know that person who walks into a room, and suddenly, the whole atmosphere shifts? The air gets a little thicker, people turn their heads, conversations pause, and you can just feel their presence. I used to think that kind of confidence was something you were either born with or granted by the gods of charisma. Turns out, it’s not. It’s an energy. An aura. And like all things energetic, it requires cultivation.

Yeah, I only found this out recently. Shocking, right? Here I was, thinking confidence was a personality trait, something handed to you at birth like eye color or an unfortunate middle name. But no. Confidence is built, sculpted, and painstakingly crafted like an overpriced artisan coffee. And trust me, the process is just as bitter before it gets sweet.

The Accidental Discovery

I first noticed this weird correlation between self-care and confidence purely by accident. There was a period in my life where I was running on fumes—eating junk, avoiding exercise like it was a debt collector, barely sleeping, and, let’s be honest, showering when my conscience bullied me into it. And surprise, surprise—I felt like trash.

Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, spiritually—every aspect of me was on a slow, glitchy Wi-Fi connection. I second-guessed everything I said, avoided eye contact, and somehow managed to shrink in size even though my body was very much the same. I was convinced that some people were just born with a natural glow, and I was not one of them.

Then one day, I accidentally took care of myself.

No, really. It started small—an “I’m bored” shower that turned into a full self-care ritual. You know, exfoliating, waxing, oiling

until my skin felt like butter left on a warm countertop. Then, for no real reason, I put on an outfit that made me feel good instead of one that just covered my body. I ate real food that didn’t come in a crinkly bag. I moved my body in a way that didn’t feel like punishment—just stretching, walking, vibing. And something weird happened: I felt different.

I walked outside, and the world reacted differently to me. People greeted me more. Conversations flowed better. Was I glowing? Had I cracked the code? Spoiler: yes. And it wasn’t just about looking good; it was about feeling good.

The Hard Truth: Confidence is Created

Confidence isn’t some mystical force reserved for Instagram models and people who somehow never sweat. It’s built, layer by layer, through the way you treat yourself. And I don’t just mean bubble baths and spa days—though, yes, those help. I mean real, intentional self-care:

  • Mental care: Talking to yourself like you would your best friend, instead of like your worst critic.
  • Physical care: Moving your body, nourishing it, and yes, occasionally dressing like you actually respect yourself.
  • Emotional care: Setting boundaries, protecting your peace, and cutting off energy vampires who drain your soul.
  • Spiritual care: Whatever centers you—prayer, meditation, dancing under the moon like a chaotic goddess. You do you.

Every time I honored myself in these ways, I noticed my confidence growing. Not overnight, but consistently. The more I took care of me, the more I felt like me—the real me, not the tired, unbothered, pajama-gremlin version that life sometimes reduces us to.

And the world responded. People started seeing me the way I was finally seeing myself. They listened when I spoke, respected my space, and treated me with the same value I was finally placing on myself. It wasn’t magic; it was alignment.

The Final Takeaway

If you’re out here waiting for confidence to just happen to you, stop. It’s not coming. You have to create it, craft it, fuel it. Confidence is the result of how you treat yourself, the choices you make daily, and the way you show up for yourself even when no one is watching.

So take that shower, wear the nice outfit, eat something that doesn’t come in a wrapper, and speak to yourself like you actually like yourself. Because the more you build yourself up, the more the world will believe in what you’ve created.

And that, my friend, is how you become the person who shifts the atmosphere the second they walk into a room.
